Blocktober swims

Swim activities 2026

The core 2026 Blocktober swims will mostly take place at the Camps Bay (CB) tidal pool, although swims anywhere can count if you record them on Strava (see more below).

Occasionally, depending on the waves, tide and weather, these core swims will be taken at Clifton 4th Beach or Camps Bay beach instead of the CB tidal pool.

If you plan to join a swim, please add your name to the Swim tab on the 2026 Activity  Roster for the days you plan to join. This helps us see who is joining, coordinate the group, and know who to look out for when we do a quick roll-call before starting the swim.

Please join and check the Swim WhatsApp group for details and any changes. I’ll usually post the plan the day before, but may need to change it on the day if the weather changes unexpectedly. I normally check the webcams first.

Where do we meet?

  • Camps Bay tidal pool: Meet at the mural next to the pool. You can’t miss it – as you face the tidal pool, it is on your left;
  • Clifton 4th Beach: Meet at the bottom of the steps to 4th Beach, near the women’s toilets and showers. Take the steps from the middle section of the car park;
  • Camps Bay beach: Meet at the rocks on the left-hand side of the beach as you face the sea.

How long do we swim?

In the Blocktober tradition, 31 is our number – representing the 31 days of October. However, for these cold Atlantic swims, though, we’ll usually aim for 13 minutes: a shorter version that allows less experienced swimmers, and even seasoned cold-water swimmers, to join without feeling pressured to stay in too long.

Feel free to do 31 seconds, 31 metres or even 31 minutes if you prefer. The main point is to join in.

Record your swim on Strava

If you want to do individual swims (i.e. swims that do not fall within these specific organised activities), please record your swims on Strava, and join the Blocktober Swim Club. This helps us capture the collective Blocktober swims.

New to Strava, or not sure how to make your activity count? See how to use Strava for Blocktober.
