Using the Blocktober roster

How to use the Blocktober 2026 activity roster

The
Blocktober 2026 activity roster is the shared list of organised Blocktober walks, runs, rides and swims during October. It lets you see what is happening, choose an activity, add your name, see how many people are joining and find the relevant WhatsApp group for updates.

You do not need to sign in to Google to add your name. Only the cells intended for participant input can be edited.

Using the roster on a phone

When entering information, the sheet tabs at the bottom may temporarily disappear. After entering your information, tap to show the sheet tabs again.

If there is a light green box, it means it is a drop-down box: tap on the box once, then tap the arrow ▼ to open the drop-down list.

Light-blue boxes are clickable links — tap them to open WhatsApp, Conditions, How to use or other linked information.

Joining an organised activity

  1. Open the Overview tab. This gives you the October activities in date order.
  2. Find an activity that suits you. The orange cells highlight the activity or route.
  3. Note the Sport — Walk, Run, Cycle or Swim.
  4. Tap that sport tab at the bottom of the roster.
  5. Find the same date and session on the sport tab. Make a mental note of the row number.
  6. Swipe left along the same row. When you reach the first open yellow Name cell, add your name, nickname or alias. On a phone, tap afterwards to return to the sheet tabs.
  7. Please use the same name or alias each time you take part. This helps us recognise repeat participation and avoid double-counting.

By adding your name, you confirm that you have read and accept the Conditions for Blocktober activities, linked from the roster.

WhatsApp and activity updates

WhatsApp groups may be used by Activity Leads for practical arrangements, changes, coordination and photos.

On the sport tab, tap the WhatsApp link in your activity row. Most activities use the General Blocktober WhatsApp group. Some activities may have their own group — for example, the Blockhouse Time Trial.

Please check WhatsApp before setting off in case arrangements have changed.

After the activity

Please do not delete your name if you were unable to take part.

The Activity Lead will use the Did it? columns after the activity to record who actually participated and may add people who joined without putting their names down beforehand. Participants do not need to complete the Did it? cells themselves.

If you are joining several times

You may also add the name or alias you use to the Roster Names tab. This is optional, but it helps us recognise repeat participants and match roster participation with Strava records.

Recording your own Blocktober activity

If you do a Blocktober walk, run, ride, swim or local equivalent that is not part of an organised roster session, use the Google Form to record it. The form is still being set up and the link will be added here once it is ready.

The Own Activities tab in the roster is read-only. Activities submitted through the form will be recorded there.

If the activity is already recorded on Strava and you are a member of the Blocktober Strava Club, you do not need to submit it again through the form.

Organised groups

Groups such as clubs, organisations or operational units do not need to list every participant individually.

First add the group once under Group Details.

Then use Group Roster. One row represents one group taking part in one specific activity session.

Complete the row from left to right: Date → Activity → Group / unit → Participants. Choose the Date first, as the Activity list then shows only sessions on that date. Later drop-down lists may also depend on earlier choices.

On a phone, tap the light green drop-down box once, then tap the arrow ▼ to open the list. After entering the details, tap to return to the sheet tabs.

Enter the expected number of participants before the activity and correct it to the actual number afterwards. Use another row whenever the same group joins another activity or session.

Instructions to Activity Leads

Instructions for Activity Leads will be added here shortly.
